A City Lost

I'm really afraid for New Orleans now that the oil spill is reaching parts of the coast. The city was damaged enough from Katrina, and was just now starting to get back on its feet. This oil disaster is going to ruin one of the world's greatest fisheries, and once this happens New Orleans will be completely finished.

Truly tragic when you consider this disaster is completely the fault of man, and the other could have been prevented if more had been done to avoid a disaster.

200,000 GALLONS a day are being pumped into the gulf, and reports are they won't be able to control this for weeks.

It's hard to even think about.

Keep Talkin'

9 of the Top 10 most polluted cities in America are located in California. Zero are in New Jersey.

Goldman

In listening to the hearings going down on Capitol Hill, and reading about the animosity between Goldman Sachs employees and Congress, I can't help but wonder how so many Republicans feel.

Essentially, when politicians attack Goldman for their "greed" they're going after the unspoken principle of what so many Americans believe to be a right! A "right" to greed, to absurd wealth, to "making money", to CAPITALISM! Yet it's so hard for those who want to not only make things easier for Wall St, to stand up to the greed because they know Americans are finally coming around to the harsh reality of a certain type of capitalism: relentless capitalism.

This country will get what it deserves, in the long run, and it's probably not a good thing. The irony will be if it's taken down by the very thing so many people think they support. In truth, they don't even know what that is.

The Big Short

Michael Lewis has done it again, as I'm sure you've heard.

I read the book in 2 days, and plan on reading it again. It's unbelievable. Like, literally, unbelievable.

Seems About Right

From cover of today's NYTIMES:

A Power Point diagram meant to portray the complexity of American strategy in Afghanistan succeeded in that aim. Upon seeing it, General Stanley A. McChrystal said, "When we understand that slide, we'll have won the war," an adviser recalled.

When I first looked at it I thought I was about to discover whether or not Delta had direct flights from Newark to Cairo.

Sleep

I used to think it was impossible to function properly without sleep, which leads me to believe that I'm either wrong, or dysfunctional.

I guess this is why people take drugs.
